Build a calendar, not a habit of panic
Write the expiry date of your current status in the same place you keep client deadlines. Everything else follows from that one entry.
Choose your default route
Most nomads settle on one route they trust. In the south that is usually Moc Bai; in the centre, Lao Bao.
### Keep documents current
A passport with less than six months validity limits your options at every counter. Renew early.
Budget realistically
Transport, government fees and service fees are separate costs. Plan the total, not just the headline transport price.
